Program Description

Details

Visit the Library’s Levenson Community Room through December 30 for Peter’s People. In this exhibit, local photographer and publisher Peter Randall generously shares images of his friends and relatives from Portsmouth and beyond!

A reception and a meet-the-photographer event will be held Sunday December 5, 2 - 4 PM in the Levenson Room. No registration is required.

As a photographer for nearly sixty years, Peter has been known mainly for his landscape images. He has, however, always enjoyed photographing people. He was tempted to call this exhibit “Peter’s Portraits,” but believes that a portrait implies a collaboration between the sitter and the photographer. Most of these images are portraits, but others are candid photographs made while the subject was talking or playing music.

Founder of Peter E. Randall Publisher, and a native of the New Hampshire seacoast, Peter E. Randall is the twelfth generation of his family to live in the region. He has been involved with publishing since graduating from the University of New Hampshire as a history major. Before founding his own publishing company, he was editor of a weekly newspaper, and for seven years edited New Hampshire Profiles magazine. Since 1974, he has authored 14 books ranging from collections of photographs and travel guides, to local history.

Peter was named a “Red River Pro,” and as a result is able to use Red River’s wonderful archival printing papers. All images in this exhibit have been printed with Red River’s Ultra Pro satin paper.

Enjoy visiting this exhibit – you just may recognize a few faces from the fabric of our community!
