What, ho, merry players! What is the reason for this terrible summons, thou might ask? Why, ‘tis a call for a meet of Shakespearean fellows at Shakespeare Discussion Group! Enjoy the selected play of the month in the way ‘twas presented: to the masses! Pick up a video recording of the play to view at your leisure, and then join us on the last Tuesday of the month, in person or online, to discuss your experience with the woeful tragedy of Othello. Be not perturbed of your knowledge of Shakespeare’s works, for we encourage fellows of all ages, areas of interest and expertise to attend, and if you aren’t able to attend this month, mourn not, for “the robb’d that smiles steals something from the thief; he robs himself that spends a bootless grief”. (In other words…) Fear not, we shall meet again next month!
On Tuesday, November 30th at 4 PM we will discuss Othello.
Print copies of this play will be available for checkout with a library card, along with several productions on DVD. Library cardholders also have streaming access to the BBC production on Kanopy – visit cityofportsmouth.com/library/kanopy to connect. Or, watch any of these freely available productions:
- Tragedy of Othello, The Moor of Venice (1981, starring William Marshall)
- The Show Must Go Online: Othello
- Fenimore Art Museum's Glimmer Globe Theatre’s 2018 production of Othello
Registration is required. This event will be held in the Hilton Garden Room, and online! Attend either way.
