at Portsmouth Public Library & Portsmouth Music and Arts Center

This popular series from Portsmouth Public Library and PMAC (Portsmouth Music and Arts Center) is back! Drawing from a rich selection of guitar talent from both New Hampshire and the greater Boston area, the series of recitals will highlight the versatility and range of the guitar from classical to jazz to acoustic.

Mitch Shuldman, Classical Guitar

Mitch Shuldman has been playing guitar since he was eight and continues his classical studies to this day. He holds a BA in music history with a concentration in classical guitar from SUNY Cortland, an MS in Library Science from Simmons College and an Ed D from the University of Massachusetts Lowell. Mitch recently retired as the Head of UMass Lowell Library’s Division Media Services.

Mitch is currently is an online student of Jason Vieaux (2015 Grammy Award winner for Best Classical Instrumental Album) and Colin Davin through Artistworks, an online music and art school. Jason Vieaux is the guitar instructor at both the Cleveland Institute of Music and the Curtis Institute of Musical in Philadelphia.

During the very early years of NHPR (1980-84) Mitch was the host of a weekly classical guitar radio show (Excursions) as well as the host of the nightly jazz program (1981-84). He is the curator for Guitar Sundays, a mostly classical guitar series in Portsmouth. He sings with Portsmouth Pro Musica and performs with Linda Bieber in a classical flute and guitar duo called Noteworthy. He also served for 8 years on the Portsmouth School Board– four of them as chair.

Registration is not required. This concert will be held rain or shine, under the tent beside the library.
