Reception & Presentation with Elissa Von Letkemann
Windows of Portsmouth, Hand Drawn Digital Illustrations
:
A Selection from her ongoing series of hand drawn digital illustrations of windows in and around Portsmouth

Exhibit on view in the Levenson Community Room September 7 through October 7.

Reception/Presentation Sunday, September 17th 2-4 in the Levenson Room.

Please join our local artist for a reception to celebrate her beautiful images and learn about the process she uses to celebrate these familiar doors in her own way!

Designer and artist, Elissa Von Letkemann, started her Windows project in 2016 to establish a personal creative practice as an outlet to balance her professional design work for clients. The project is inspired by fellow designers’ cumulative bodies of work, a lifelong obsession with windows and natural light, and nostalgic memories of her own travels through the streets of Portsmouth—which began as a young teenager in the 1980’s.

“I love discovering interesting windows, some of which I’ve passed by a million times and never noticed. I find myself making up narratives about who lives behind them. Why do they always keep the shade down? How long have they lived there? Are they happy being on the shady side of the street?”

Elissa takes photos of windows are interesting to her as she goes about her day in Portsmouth. Beautiful and historic or aging and worn down, curtains pulled closed or thrown wide open with a cat dozing on a sunny sill. She then draws them by hand using Adobe Illustrator.

Elissa's work has been displayed in galleries, museums, businesses and private collections, and some is available for purchase on Etsy at EVArtandDesign.

Founder of Elissa Von Letkemann Art & Design, Elissa specializes in retail brand design. She attended Portsmouth High School and graduated from Berwick Academy and UNH. Later she received her MFA in Graphic Design from Boston University. Elissa lives on the sunny side of her street in Portsmouth and has lots of windows.
