Historic House Plaque Program
The Portsmouth Athenaeum, Portsmouth NH 400, the Friends of the South End, and the Citywide Neighborhood Committee are collaborating on a Historic House Plaque Program for 2023!
The owners of any house, no matter the age or location in Portsmouth, can research the origins of their home and complete the application for approval to install a plaque that has been pre-approved by the City’s Historic District Commission.
Join us on Tuesday July 25th as we host the Portsmouth Historic House Sign Committee members along with museum curator and consultant John Mayer. The Committee will share details about the project and discuss the process of applying for a plaque. John Mayer will then provide an introduction to resources you can use to explore the history of your house including deeds, maps, and online sources, as well as resources available locally. Bring your computer or a notepad and we can start the research together!
This event is free and open to all! Attend in person in the library’s Levenson Room. No registration required!
