All AgesProgram Description
Details
Join us for a special all ages program featuring Maine's Halcyon string quartet's performance based on Robert McCloskey’s beloved children’s book, Make Way for Ducklings. HALCYON is a Maine-based artist collective and string quartet that designs and presents multimedia performances combining live music with science, film, art, and spoken word.
In collaboration with local actor Luke Fatora, Halcyon combines music, story, and illustration in an engaging performance to entertain all who attend. Musical selections include classical favorites and Halcyon String Quartet’s lively renditions of folk tunes and nostalgic songs from childhood.
Halcyon's performances celebrate Maine's ecosystems and reflect on the challenges and opportunities in a climate-changed world. They draw attention to the difficult choices, rewards, and realities facing our communities – acknowledging the need for creative and diverse communication that harnesses the power of cultural traditions, storytelling, music, and visual
art to translate numbers and facts into something tangible and human.
In addition to offering public performances, Halcyon performs the program for over 1000 students through free in-school matinees. They also partner with scientists, musicians, artists, and composers to present 4-5 multi-show performance projects throughout Maine every year. While Halcyon's performances are localized in Maine and New England, Halcyon's musicians have taught and performed at Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and festivals in Europe, Australia, Panama, India, Jordan, and Samoa.
