Guitar Sundays are back! Our next free classical guitar concert features the Back Bay Guitar Trio at the Portsmouth Music and Arts Center (PMAC). Members of the Back Bay Trio include David Newsam, John Mason, and Jason Ennis.

The Back Bay Trio were formed in 2002 and performed at Dartmouth College, Longy School of Music, Berklee College of Music, St. Anselm College, University of New Hampshire, The House of Blues, and the world-renowned Boston Hatch Shell. The BBGT has been featured artists for the Boston Classical Guitar Society, and the New York City Classical Guitar Society, and opened up for guitarist Al Dimeola at the Lebanon (NH) Opera House. The Back Bay Guitar Trio toured Germany in the summer of 2009 and appeared as featured artists at the Hildener Meisterkurs in Hilden and a concert sponsored by the U.S. Consulate at the Nebbiensches Gartenhaus in Frankfurt.

About the artists 
David Newsam
is an Associate Professor of guitar at the Berklee College of Music. He is also the former artistic director of the Boston Classical Guitar Society, a member of the Back Bay Guitar Trio, and serves as a senior lecturer in guitar and jazz improvisation at Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH. Mr. Newsam created the jazz guitar program at the University of New Hampshire where he teaches and directs the UNH Jazz Guitar Ensemble.

John Mason grew up in Westwood Mass. He studied at Middlebury College, graduating in 1984 with a bachelor’s degree in music with further study at the Berklee College of Music. He is currently on faculty at Westfield State College, Holyoke Community College, and the Northfield Mount Hermon School. In addition to being in the Back Bay Guitar Trio, John performs with the improv group Solo Mission.

Jason Ennis is a graduate of Middlebury College (BA in music). He attended Berklee College of Music (Boston) and The San Francisco Conservatory of Music.


About Guitar Sundays

Portsmouth Music and Arts Center and Portsmouth Public Library, in association with the Boston Classical Guitar Society and with support from Service Credit Union present Guitar Sundays, a series of live guitar performances. Produced and curated by Mitch Shuldman, these free concerts will be held at 3 PM each month, alternating between the Levenson Room at the Portsmouth Public Library and the Haas Family Gallery and Recital Hall at PMAC.

Guitar Sundays draw from a rich selection of talent from both New Hampshire and the greater Boston area, this series of recitals highlights the versatility and range of the guitar with both classical and jazz performances.
