The Seacoast Ruggers welcome you to our Rug Hooking Exhibit! Rug hooking is both an art and a craft. Hooked items range from delicate wall hangings made with tiny strips of wool to household pillows to sturdy machine washable rugs. Other materials can be used including yarn, worn-out clothing, men’s shirts, even old t-shirts, and nylon stockings are
suitable for hooking. More recently, artists have included beads, buttons, charms, and even mechanical devices to enhance their rugs. Tools can be as simple as a a comfortable hook, a good pair of scissors and an embroidery hoop or frame.
What started as a necessity for people with few resources has evolved into a rich and rewarding communal pastime;
hooking and socializing go very well together! Whether you are drawn to delicate florals with fine shading or primitive country images, rug hooking is an accessible and creative endeavor that is easy to learn.
Thank you for visiting and please come experience hooking during one of our hands-on demonstrations in the library lobby on Saturday, January 4, 11 & 18 from 1—3 PM!
