Presented by the library’s Special Collections staff and members of the Ranger Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), these events are free, open to the public, and appropriate for all levels of interest and experience. All levels will learn something new!

Join us as Patty Shorland, Director of the Exeter FamilySearch Center, shares about the resources and databases available through EFSC. Learn how to make the most of the resources on the FamilySearch website, including online help, the wiki, online classes, the benefits of creating a free account, ways to search the online record collections, and understanding and using many of the functions on the Family Tree section of the website.

Visit the Center and use their portal for free access to premium websites such as American Ancestors, Ancestry (world edition) Arkiv Digital (Sweden), Find My Past, Fold 3, Geneanet, Irish Ancestors, My Heritage, and Newspaper Archive. The Exeter FamilySearch Center has numerous pieces of digitizing equipment, and you may schedule time to come in and digitize photos, negatives, and larger items such as books and documents. Their equipment will help you convert movies and VHS tapes to a modern digital format. They also have a lightbox to take pictures of 3-dimensional family heirlooms. If you've got questions about EFSC, bring them to the event and Patty will answer as many as she can!

Registration is not required.

About the Presenter
Patty Shorland enjoys sharing her passion for family history and helping people learn how to trace their own roots. She has a bachelor’s and master’s from the University of Denver, manages a family business, and has six children and 17 grandchildren spread throughout the western U.S. and in Argentina. Patty has been researching her family for 50 years. Her fascination with genealogy began when she was about 10 and a great aunt showed her a small book on her family history. Living in New England since 2004 has given her a chance to visit the places her colonial ancestors lived and visit archives from New York to Maryland for her research. She has worked in FamilySearch Centers wherever she has lived and is currently a director in Exeter, N.H.
