Join us for a compelling presentation by Dr. Kathleen Wheeler as she shares the remarkable findings from the 2003 and 2008 archaeological investigations of the "Negro Burying Ground." These investigations led to the discovery of 22 graves beneath Chestnut Street and the unearthing of 13 individuals. Dr. Wheeler will delve into the stories of those found, offering a unique glimpse into a significant part of Portsmouth's history.

About the Presenter 
Kathleen Wheeler is the founder and former owner of Independent Archaeological Consulting, LLC. Dr. Wheeler imagined and supervised the archaeological study at the Portsmouth African Burial Ground. Now retired, she regards her work on the African Burial Ground as one of the most challenging and rewarding projects of her 40-year career.
